Veterinary dental continuing education courses for veterinarians and technicians can be found at the Veterinary Dental Education Center in Punta Gorda FL and taught by veterinary dentist Brett Beckman, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC, DAAPM. When not teaching or lecturing nationally on veterinary dentistry, Dr. Beckman sees patients in Punta Gorda and Orlando, Florida, as well as Atlanta, Georgia.

Feline Dentistry

This lecture and wet lab focuses on feline dentistry, oral surgery and radiology. Periodontal disease, surgical and non-surgical extractions, FORL’s, stomatitis and diseases of the feline oral cavity are covered in lecture and significant time is spent in the wetlab.

Radiographic positioning, technique and interpretation are approached in a novel teaching approach that simplifies veterinary dental radiography for cats. Both digital and film developing are discussed. Participants utilize state of the art digital imaging systems to obtain immediate feedback from positioning in the lab.

This lecture and wet lab is extremely practical, providing the veterinarian with the skills needed to treat the majority of dentistry cases seen in practice daily.

DAY 1  This lecture and wet lab will focus on gross and radiographic anatomy and physiology of the oral cavity as it relates to periodontal pathology, subgingival curettage, closed root planing, envelope and releasing flaps for open root planing, perioceutic and synthetic bone placement, case approaches to periodontal disease and treatment planning.   

DAY 2 This day involves a short lecture and extensive wet lab that will focus on the latest techniques to facilitate less traumatic extractions by utilizing mucoperiosteal flaps, line angle incisions, sectioning, bone removal, bone contouring and suturing.

Veterinary Dental Radiography Simplified
for the Veterinary Technician or Veterinarian

This hands on lab provides the veterinarian and veterinary technician a simplified approach to obtaining quality dental radiographs without the traditional steep learning curve.  Utilizing Dr. Beckman's Veterinary Dental Radiographic Positioning Guide participants will learn technique and positioning for creating quick and easy full mouth dental radiographic series in dogs and cats.

Veterinary Dental Radiographic Interpretation

This practical program for the veterinary practitioner provides a case oriented approach to canine and feline oral radiographic interpretation.  An interactive interpretive quiz followed by an open discussion will round out this informative session.

This is practical program for the veterinary technician interested in learning more about veterinary dentistry and expanding the scope of the dentistry services in their practices. Subjects include important conditions you need to know, increasing dentistry compliance, what you can do to take dentistry to the next level in your practice, oral examination and charting, intro to nerve blocks and pain management, intro to dental radiology, talking to owners about periodontal disease and an overview of veterinary dental products and equipment.

Veterinary Dental Weekend for Technicians

This is a comprehensive wet lab and lecture series for veterinary technicians interested in learning more about veterinary dentistry and expanding the scope of the dentistry services in their practices.  Subjects include oral examination, charting, equipment, instrumentation, patient monitoring, potential problems and complications, oral disease recognition, pain management, radiology, periodontology and client communication.

Veterinary Dental Client Education CD

This veterinary dental client education CD includes quality veterinary dentistry pictures and x-rays. Descriptions are provided for each picture sequence of common oral conditions seen in veterinary dentistry.  It is designed to be used in the exam room for educating clients and increasing compliance for recommended dental procedures.  Many sequences show the original gross pathology, the radiographic appearance, the intraoperative images and the case following treatment completion.
